He was translating the book so as to save Yoshie from her illness but finished it too late. He is hated by Takiko for neglecting the family, and now that he has lost her to the book, he regrets not spending more time with his daughter and wife. Although Takiko never knew, he was always very proud of her. He seemed distant to her, because he didn't know how to treat or to relate to his daughter, but wants to see her safe and happy. While Takiko is in Hokkan, he follows her adventures by reading the book. When she came home briefly, he wanted to prevent her from returning into the book, and fears what may happen to her. She comes home again later, and during that time he first attempts to destroy the book, only to find it out seems to have a mind of it's own, and is waiting for Takiko to complete the story.
