Rocks and precious stones have long been used by Hokkan oracles for divination. The Seimei stone is one such stone with potent magic, and from this stone, Namame is born. He is phsycically made of rock, and has great power over the earth, able to create huge caverns, deep rifts, and transform his own body into a sort of movable stone sculpture of any size. Even having his head cut off simply allows him two seperate body parts to function (though with limited power).

He's rather simple and childlike in his understanding of the world. For a long time he simply wanted to be accepted as a human, and attempted to mimic the form of the human bodies that were buried in the Rift of Rebirth. Dead stone people don't generally get accepted with open arms, however, and he was driven away. He remained lonely and bitter until the young priestess Anruu was able to reach him through her patience and open heart. Using a necklace made of precious stones and metals, Anruu was able to speak to him and nuture him, and in return Namame fervently protected her. He had no desire to leave Anruu and join Takiko, until she was killed by Shigi. And even then, it took a lot of work for Takiko to be able to reach him when he holed himself away in the rift of rebirth to grief Anruu. He can only speak to her when her heart is fully open to understanding people, and not closed by her own pride, expectations or judgements.

Takiko is still learning to fully open her heart to him, but as of chapter 18, they have been able to exchange a few words. Being the only one he can speak to Namame single-mindedly serves Takiko, protecting her at times when no one else is able to. Being silent, he has limited interaction with the other Seishi, but it's clear they've all accepted him, and enjoy his company, he be making sculptures, deviously following people, or turning himself into a giant stone horse to carry everyone.
