 wakaosa soruen
image of soruen About 28 years old, Soruen comes from the Baku tribe in the western country of Sairou. He was recognized as a master horseman even in his youth, which he spent growing up on the plains. His father, as has been for generations, is a loyal guardian of the Hokkan royal family, and Soruen was raised to also be a skilled warrior.

When he was twelve, his father brought the baby Rimudo into their family for protection, and Soruen was like an older brother. While traveling near the Hanun river, they were discovered by Temudan and Tauru was killed. At the same time Rimudo discovers he is a Seishi. Unable to cope with his grief, Rimudo attemps to kill himself. In a moment of weakness, thinking of being free from such a responsiblity, Soruen nearly lets Rimudo die. He saves him when he sees Rimudo's face, and while Rimudo continues to trust and love Soruen unconditionally, Soruen feels great guilt for his 'betrayal'.

Now older, Soruen and Rimudo are very close. Soruen is pleased that Rimudo's taken an interest in a woman like Takiko, and is the one to encourage Rimudo to accept his feelings for the Priestess. Despite Rimudo's reluctance, Soruen whole-heartedly supports Takiko and her purpose in Hokkan, putting his life on the line in serveral instances to ensure both her safety and Rimudo's.

A skill learned from his father, Soruen and Rimudo use the scent of a crushed toka seed to find each other when separated. It's a distinct, bitter smell, and for those who know it, can pick it up from miles away. When Soruen and Takiko are captured by the Kutou army, he realises the army's plan to use him as bait for capture and kill Uruki. He gives his toka seeds to Takiko, telling her they're medicine, and they are then separated. Not realising any of this, Takiko breaks the seed and calls Rimudo to her, instead of letting him go to help Soruen.

Soruen, held prisoner, alone and surrounded by thousands of Kutou solders and desperately hoping that Rimudo will not come, fights. Fights to distract them, fights to honour his father, Rimudo, and himself, fights to take down as many of those soldiers as he can. By the time Rimudo realises what has happened, it's too late, Soruen has sustained fatal injuries. Soruen then ignites his armour laced with gun-powder, and takes his own life, destroying his entire body in the process.

Rimudo is Not Happy. It's not until a special ceremony is held by members of the Urudai tribe that Rimudo is able to stop grieving, and rest assured that Soruen's soul has passed on.
