He loved his son and family. He's the one who taught Tomite not only how to use a bow and arrows, but inspired him to be a courageous person. He tried to fight off the Mou to protect his family, but ended up getting eaten in front of his son. Little Tomite was so scared he couldn't even hit the monster with an arrow, much less kill it. The memory has plagued Tomite for years, and has felt like he's let his father down by not being able to kill the monster that killed his father. Upon encountering the same monster again, Tomite is able to defeat it, and his fathers ghost is finally put to rest.
