 history
The year 2000 seems a long way ago already. I was 13 and, brand new to this world of manga, on a whim picked up an overpriced copy of volume 1 of some shoujo comic called Fushigi Yuugi. I was immediately infatuated. And along the way Hikitsu and Tomite of the Genbu Seishi entered the picture.

Who knows what it is that made them stand out among a large cast of characters. Their loyalty? Their power? Their mystery? There were a few sites with limited information about these Genbu folk, and I, too, wanted to make them a shrine (as was common at the time). I think I tried making some horrific and unmentionable website on angelfire, and there may have been some fanfiction which has, thankfully, by now almost entirely vanished from the internet.

But the idea was there. In 2003, I caught wind of rumours of a Genbu Kaiden manga. I don't think there are enough words to express my joy at the time. Determined, and with considerable more experience, I set about making a website for the Genbu Seishi.

There isn't much to say past that. The site bounced around for a while- different hosts, different content. It was all trying to find a niche that fit with what I wanted the site to be, and to fill the space where there was (and still is, sadly) a lack of sites for this series. Somewhere along the way, something resembling Foreign Lullaby emerged!

There are now other sites with magnificent layouts, and profound content, but Foreign Lullaby is still here, filling a tiny niche of the fandom, hopefully as both a resource for those looking for information, and as a pointer for communities of the fandom.

current layout (August 2008)
At this time, Foreign Lullaby is hosted at genbu.harikoa.com (new domain as of Sept 2009). The site has recently made a change from same-old-tedious html to i'm-lazy-and-efficient php. As a personal choice, I have also made a particular effort to let the site be more accessible to all visitors. I've tried to include alt tags for all links and images, invisible skip menu links, and reduced image loads -- all things the average visitor will not see, but are supported by text-only viewers (to see what I mean check out the lynx viewer. Foreign Lullaby isn't perfect yet, but I'm working on it!).

Layout tested in: Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer (on PC) and Firefox, Safari and Lynx (on Mac). Resolution: 1024 x 724, but hopefully also works in 800 x 600.

It's helpful for me if you mention you found me through Foreign Lullaby though. ;) I suggest email, as I check that most frequently.
